Jose Oduardo Perez stars in ‘Tocororo’ Sadler's Wells Sat 10th July matinee

It may have been cold and wet outside but inside the theatre the atmosphere was soon steamin’ hot!
Jose Perez, having promised to ‘try his best’ in the leading role, danced in an exciting, attention-stealing way. There was no feeling of being ‘second-best’ to Carlos; Jose made the role his own.

There was a sultry chemistry between Jose and his ‘girlfriend’ Tania Suarez, a lovely, classically-trained dancer who reminded us of a young Alessandra Ferri, both in looks and in her graceful, passionate dancing.

Perez is a muscular, athletic dancer. His classical technique, whilst ridiculed by the cast, is jaw-droppingly good, he has great elevation and pirouettes… well, it’s ‘fireworks’ all the way.
His acting was poignant and sincere, especially in the scene where he returns home to find his father’s chair empty, his parents merely shadows in his memory.
